TO THOSE WHO FIGHT AND FALL.

In thanking Madame Muller for arranging the concert given at the Concert Chamber last evening in aid of tho Mayor's War Distress Fund, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) said that in about a week's timo he would make a statement showing tho state of the fund, arid, how it had been expended up to the present, and giving an outline of what the public's obligations in this respect would be.- He said that eight months of the war had now elapsed.' Distress in Wellington had certainly been observable, but it had been met in a manner characteristic of the people of Wellington. Now that the. New Zealand boys wfre assembling in the trenches they must conclude that they could not escape trouble. • And they, had their obligations' to meet' respecting their dependents, be they widow, mother, or sister, and it was for each and all of theru to see that those obligations were faithfully and honourablv met. (Applause.) The concerts' woulii be held monthly for the future to augment the .finances in this direction,, and if all present would undertake to sell a ticket .as well as take one, it would mean that, tho hall would be packed. He moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Madame Muller and those- who were assisting her, a vote which was carried with acclamation.
