ARMY MEAT SUPPLY
TOTAL PURCHASES AND EXPENDITURE. Big shipments of frozen meat were sent away by the Karamea. and Rotorua yesterday. The Karamea carried 33,298 carcasses of mutton, 29,087 carcasses of lamb and 12,957 quarters of beef and the Rotorua 51,326 carcasses of mutton, 64,636 carcasses of lamb, and 3926 quarters of beef. Up till the present the New Zealand Government has spent on behalf of the Imperial Government on meat purchased for Army supplies £493,843. For this the quantities purchased, and now cither on the way to England or loading on ships in port, are as follow: —57,029 quarters of beef; 268,819 carcasses of mutton; 308,355 carcasses of lamb; and 36.838 carcasses of mixed mutton and lamb.
