BAND CONTEST

♦ (By Telegraph—Press Association,! Chrlstchurch, April 7. The band contest -was resumed'to-day. The results are:— Tenor Horn Solo.—C. Hansen (Nelson Regimental), 90 marks, 1; G. Wilson (Woolston), 89 marks, 2; M. Bowes (Wangamii Garrison), 88 marks, 3. Of twentv entries only nine competed. B flat Trombone Solo.—J. Sara (Westport Regimental), 91 marks, 1; A. Willis (Invercargill Hibernians), 88 marks, 2; J. Neighbours (Westport Regimental), 86' marks, 3. Fifteen entered, but only nine competed. Baritone Solo—G. Jensen (Wangannih 8D marks, 1; C. E. Smith (Timaru Regimental), 87 marks, 2; W. Wheatley (Westport), 86 marks, 3. There were twelve entrants and ten contestants.

Euphoninm Solo. —S. J. Johnstone (Napier City), 95 marks, 1; J. A. 'M'Clintock (Woolston), DO marks, 2; W. Sullivan (Lyttelton), 88 marks, 3. Fourteen entered and eight competed.

Trombone Trio.—Wanganui Garrison, 88 marks, 1; Wellington Tramways, -86 marks, 2; Invercargill Hibernian, '85 marks, 3. It was close on seven o'clock before the afternoon events concluded. The evening was dovoted to the second portion of the A Grade Contest (Wagner selection). There -were eleven entrants and eight contestants. It will be close on midnight before a decision is given. At the time of telegraphing Woolston is playing, and there is another to play. The opinion appears to be that the judge will probably decide as follows; — Tiniaru, 1; Oamaru, 2; and either Wanganui or Woolston, 3. Wanganui's performance was considered disappointing. Later. The last band (Westport Garrison) finished at 11.45 p.m., after which Dr. Thacker, president of the South Island Association, presented the prizes won during the contest. Referring to the judge, Dr. Thacker said he_ had pleased everybody, and was the right man in the right placo The result of the Test .was: —Woolston, 89 and 94, total 183, 1; Timaru, 82, 90 —172, 2; Wanganui, 92, 77 — 169, 3. Besson Shield.—Timaru, 1. ITawk© Shield and Boosey Shield. — Woolston, 1. Boosey Shield: B grade.—Napier. 1.
