SWANSTON IN FINE FORM
Somo capital play was scon on the Day's Bay courts yesterday, ivhen the finals of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Championships were decided. The weather was fine, though the day was dull and cold at intervals. The outstanding feature of the tournament was the fine form shown by tho ex-New Zealand champion, R. N. JL Swanston, who was successful in the three events for which he entered, On Monday Swanston won the men's championship doubles with J. 0. Peacock, wliilo yesterday he won the championship singles from Peacock, and was afterwards victorious with Miss Travers in tho combined championship doubles. In the final of tho championship singles Swanston won all three sets, but his opponent contest, ed every game in a manner which proved both interesting and exciting to the spectators. At the fifth game of tho tliird set the score was 4—l, Peacock leads, but Swanston made it four all, and though Peacock led again, 7—6, iio was beaten for the set and the championship at 9—7. Miss R. Hushes (Pahiatua) showed really good form in the ladies' championship singles, and was too versatile for Miss C. Stevens (metropolitan' champion), though lihe latter was scarcely seen at her best. There were several other interesting finishes, notably in the ladies' handicap doubles, which was only won by Mrs. Burton and Miss Sullivan at 61 —59. (By Telegraph— Press Association.) Rotorua, April 6. A very successful tournament concluded this afternoon. There were large entries. The results were as follow:— Men's Championship Singles.—S. E. The Otago Association's Easter Tourney was continued to-day under idoal weather conditions. There was a large attendance of spectators. The final of the Men's Championship Doubles was won by Ollivicr and Slieppard (Christ? church) who defeated Bray and Sinclair (Dunedin) by three sets to one, after a fairly even contest. Miss F. Campboll won llio Ladies' Championship Singles for the seventeenth time in 18 years. She did not, compete in 1913. Ollivior played a splendid game in the semi-final of the Championship Singes ngainst Bray, and showed some of his best form. Ho will now be matched against AVarne Pearse in the final.
