HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, April 1. (Note—Quotations, unless otherwise Bpeeiflcd, are average market prices on spot) :— Mutton.—The market is firm, and there is a good demand for prime quality. North Island, 6Jd. per lb. for best quality light-weight; heavy-weight, 6d.; ewes, there is less demand, 5 9-16 d. Lamb.—The market io very firm. There fe a large demand for better grades, but a limited demand for poorer grades. Other than Canterbury, Bd. per lb., and as high as 81d. for very bcßt quality; second grade, 7Jd. Beef.—The market is firm, with an improved demand as a result of small arrivals of chilled beef. New Zealand hinils, 6Jd per lb.; fores, 6d.; chilled hinds, 7 3-Bd.; fores, 6id. Frozen Fork.—There is a large demand owing to export being probihited from Holland; 7}d. per lb. Butter—The market is quiet. Danish, per cwt., 138s to 14Zs.; New Zealand; 1345. to '365.; Australian,'l32s to 1345.: Siberian, 1265. to 1325.; Argentine, 130s. to 1345. Cheese— The market is quiet, but steady. Canadian, white and coloured, per cwt, 945. to 985.; New Zcalond, white and coloured, 935. to 945.; Australian, 88s. to 925.; States, 88s. to 905.; large Cheddar shapes, up to 945. ; English Cheddar, 98s. to 102s. Hemp.—The market remains firm, especially for near at hand shipments Oil account of congestion at the docks spot parcels command premium. Frozen Lamb: The demand lies been so good and tho supply so limited that Bd. has been touched for the best New Zcalands, with secondary at 7id.-7?d. Australian; Best are 7d.; fair, 6Jd; inforior, 6 5-Ed ; South American, 28-36, 63d; 36-42, 63d. With a normal supply available, however, these extreme prices are 4 not likely to be maintained. Beef: Arrivals of chilled have been heavier than previously, but have marketed in small quantities, and anticipations of # muoh lower prices have not been realised.
