INCREASE IN CONSUMPTION OP SPIRITS (Rec. April 6, 6.20 p.m.) London, April 5. The excise returns show that in December and January, compared with the corresponding months of the previous year, the brewace decreased.by 1,80p,000 barrels, and the distillation of spirits increased by 269,000 gallons. Unofficial returns show that in March the consumption of beer had fallen at almost the same Tate, but that there was a still larger increase in spirit drinking.
