RACING APPEALS

TWO CASES DECIDED. (By TeleeraDh.—Press Association,) Chrlitchureh, April 5. The following decisions have been given in two racing appeal cases heard last week. In the matter of the appeal by the Southland Racing Club against the decision of the Dunediii District Committee, upholding the appeal of Dr.W. Robertson against the action of the Judicial Committee of the Southland Racing Club in fining Dr. W. Robertson fEo sum of .£2O for failing to attend a meeting of tho said Judicial Committee when warned to do so, the following judgment was given:—"Wa are of opinion that Dr. W. Robertson was not guilty of any infringement of tho rules of racing by not attonding the meeting of tho J udieTal Committee of the Southland Racing Club on the notice lie received. The appeal is hereby dismissed." (Signed) Hugo Friedlander, F. H. Pyne, B. L. Lane, judges. Christchurch April 1, 1915. In the matter of the appeal by R. Logan and G. Hastio, _ owners of tho horse Caraid Dileas, against the decision of the Dunedin District Committer upnolding the appeal of Dr. W. Robertson, owuer*of tho horse Brooksdale, against tho decision of tho Judicial Committee of the .Southland Racing Club in awarding the stakes for tho Avenal Welter Haudicap, run on January 2, 19T.5, to tho owners of the horso Caraid Dileas, the judgment, savs:—"We are of opinion that Dr. Robertson's nomination of Brooksdale was not. an infringement of the Rules of Racing, and wo, therefore, dismiss the appeal. We order that the expenses of A. D. M'Tvor ill attending (ho heaving of this appeal be paid by the Southland Racing Club, which club requested that he. produce document." (Signed) Ruzo jirMUiielw. F. Good Friday and tie Easter season were kept up at the Sailors'. Friend Society, and resulted in a busy time. ' On Good Friday a service was Feld, when the missioner, Mr. Moore, preached before a large audience on "Easter Mis-' takes." In the evening a' soiig service' was held, when the sailors chose their own hymns, and various solos- s'uoh as "The Holy City," were sung by tho following : —Mr a. Ilenner, Misso'S. G'awler, S'alls, Messrs. Rowley, Childs-and Godier. Mrs. (Jlapslmw Dodds were pianists, and Mr. AVafßer rendered violin items. On Easter Sunday . ' services were conducted by-the missioner, and a song service was lield in theoven-' ing. On Easter Monday a picnic was held in the country, and various games ..were entered into under the guidance of tho missioner. In the evening; a ■pleasing concert was provided by Mr. and Mrs.. Cooze. During the .evening tho prizes won at tho picnic were presonted to Messrs. Spencer, O'Brien, Broomham, Glover, Spencer, and Jackson. Items were rendered by Misses' Aitcheson, Johus, M'Gco, Mrs. Cooze, Messrs. Cooze, Smith, Stßiner (R.M.S. JKaraniea), Spencor, O'Brien (R.M.S. liotoma), J. . Turner. Refreshments were kindly provided by Dr. PlatteMills, gad much appreciated. Ahearty vote of thanks to the performers was moved by the missioner and responded to by Mr. Uooze,

A bazaar promoted by the teachers and scholars of the Petone District High Sohool in aid of the Belgian Fund was held on Thursday, and was well patronised. Every article was donated, including some choico pot plants from Mr. T. Waugh's nursery at Taita. The sweetß were made by girls, and the boxes and baskets used wore manufactured by children. Over £40 was taken as a result of the gathering, and great credit is due to the committee that promoted the affair. The stall-holders were:— Refreshments, Miss Slater; gift stall, Miss M'Kenzie; fancy stall, Miss Ross; sweets, Miss F. Ross; produce, Mr. J. Lynskey; ice crcam, Mr. M. Tremewan. Mr. E. King was treasurer, and Sir. Stevens supervisor.. The following were the winners of the various competitions: Mrs. Hall (ham), Master Eiffe (doll), and Master Seymour (parrot). _ As the expenses were practically nil, it is anticipated that £40 will be handed over to the fund. Mrs. Botha, wife of the South 'African Premier, is appealing for funds for a supply of veils for the Union forces engaged in operations in German South- J .West Africa. .Within a period of twelve months, furniture to tin; value ol nearly i:i,IJUU,000 has been exported from tho United Kingdom.
