ROWING REGATTA.

CHAMPIONSHIPS AT PICTON

HADFIELD WINS SCULLS

The New Zealand Amateur Championship Rowing Regatta was held at Picton yesterday in perfect weather. There •?. 3 ® a large attendance, including some 1400 visitors from Wellington, who arrived in time to see the finish of the second race. The entries were not up ? to those of past years, but the rowing Was good. When the first race started W 10.30 a.m. the sea had a glassy surface, but there was a fair tide run- ■ hing out. In the afternoon the water was_ only slightly ruffled. Wellington towing wen were not well represented at the meeting, Star being the only club with a crew down, entered in the Junior Fours, _ and the Marlborough Plate. The. principal event of the regatta was the Champion Fours, for Vrhich four crews entered. ■ Wanganui lUnion, who won the event last year, rowed beautifully in the event, and the issue was never in doubt. The Champion Sculls was next in order of merit, and for this event Wanganui Union had two; men entered, in an endeavour to lower the colours of D. C. Hadfield, iWaitemata, the. winner of the two previous years' events. Hadfield, however, had the race in hand from the start, and won comfortably. The other events provided interesting rowing. The officials carried out their duties in an excellent manner. Results':— MAIDEN FOURS. One mile. First Prize, £8; Second, £2. Waitemata (A. ! White str., W., B. Sangt 3, F. Goodall 2, C.
