PETONE WORKING MEN'S CLUB

ANNUAL PICNIC. The annual picnic of the Petone Working. Men's Club was held on Saturday at the Hutt Park, when there was a record attendance. Each event was got off to time, and the judgment of the handicappers was shown in many close finishes. During the afternoon the Mayor of Petone visited the grounds and was welcomed by the club president (Mr. R. Cunliffe). Mr. Mace, late president of the' Wellington Club. Mr. T. Smith, secretary, and several members of the parent institution were also present. The sports officials were: —Secretary, Mr. W. Elder; handicapper, Mr. Geo. Fin]ay; starter, Mr. H. Arnold; assistant starter, Mr. E. Riddler; judges, Messrs. R. Aplin, F. Clark, and R. B. Smith; clerks of course, .Messrß, J. Richardson and P. Taylor. ! The juvenile sports were in the capable hands of Messrs. Spence, Collins, O'Neil, Reeves, Taylor, Newland, Head, and Darling, and the efforts of the youngsters to win their various events created much amusement. The general committee consisted of the president (Mr. R. Cunlifto),' vice-president (Mr. W. Elder), secretary (Mr; Jno. Smith), and Messrs. J. Owen, R. Smith, It. Jones, W. Taylor. and W. Forsyth. The following are the results of the principal events:—Maiden race: W. M'Dougall, 1; F. Abrini, 2. Stepping the chain: Mrs. Carter, 1; Miss E. Martin, 2. Men's race (40 to 50 years): Urcn, 1; Campbell, 2. Married women's race: Mrs. Nicholas, 1; Mrs. Uren, 2; Mrs. Black, 3. Men's race (50 years and over): T. Judd, 1; G. Jowett, 2. Single women's race: Miss Uren, I; Miss Leadbeater, 2.. Youths' raco: H. E. Nicholls, 1; R. Martin, 2. Threelegged race: Abrim and M'Dougall, 1: May and Smith, 2. Boot race (men): G. Milne,, 1; Smith, 2. AYorking Men's Club handicap: J. Fraser, 1; J. M'Kee, 2; T; Judd, 3. Women's shoe race: Miss A. Wilson, 1; Miss Smith, 2. Married women's extra race: Mrs. Outram, 1; Mrs. Uren, 2: Mrs. R. G. Smith, 3. Committeemen s race: Taylor, 1; Spence, 2; Cunliffe, 3.
