DEBATING CONTEST

WON BY VICTORIA COLLEGE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, April 4. Th# debating contest in connection with the -New Zealand University was held in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall Inst night, Mr. l'\ W. Lang, M.P., presiding. The subject was: "Should the principle of an Elective Executive be substituted for the system of party government at present obtaining in New Zealand." The judges were Dr. W. C. W. M'Dowell, Mr. 11. (J. Cousins, M.A., and the Rev. I. Jolly, M.A. The judges remarked that Victoria College was undoubtedly far ahead in order of merit and would therefore be placed first, and Auckland second. Canterbury and Otago were very close together, the former boiiiß placed third.
