ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION

b—r—'AND THE NATIONAL RESERVE. From the Minister of Finance's letter detailing the Government scheme for dealing with relief funds, it will be seen that'to the St. John Ambulance Association has'been assigned the duty, (lj of receiving all donations for Red Cross purposes for transmission to St. John's Gate: and (2) of receiving and eventually dispatching through the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, all gifts in kind contributed in New Zealand for Red Cross, purposes. As a step towards fulfilling these war obligations, the Wellington Centre has, thanks to the good services of the officer in command of the Salvation Army, secured, temporarily, at a very nominal rental, premises in Belcher's Buildings, Courtenay Place, until recently occupied as the Salyation Army's headquarters. There is spacious accommodation on the ground floor for storing, sorting and packing the goods, and on the first floor office accommodation and lecturo rooms. The building is in every }va.v suitable. Another.duty which now devolves upon the association is the preparation of a complete roll of all qualified and lrilling to enroll in the National Reserve, and form them into voluntary aid detachments on'the 6ame lines as the voluntary aid detachments attached to the Territorial organisation of the St. John and Royal Red Cross Society's members grouped together in England for' home defence. For men's sections (he first aid certificate is accepted as qualification, whilst for women it is necessary to hold the St. John Home Nursing Certificate in addition to tliat for first aid. To cope with the additional work there is urgent neod for clerical assistance, and any ladies and gentlemen who would volunteer their services gratuitously for, say, two hoprs in the mornings or evenings, on stated cjays, would be rendering a patriotic service at this crisis. Names could be given in, either at Belcher's Buildings, or at 2 ; 5 Panama Street.
