NEWTOWN SCHOOL SPORTS
On Thursday afternoon the children .'•'of Newtown School, in lieu of the cus'Ttomary picnic, which was omitted this .•year for patriotic reasons, indulged in iathlefic sports on the playing ground 'of Newtown Park. Besides a programme of events for each class there was a series of competitions "for the [.championship of the school —boys and girls respectively—and for these cerI tificates were awarded; The respective champions were CjTil Farquhar and Ivy .Gubbins. Their names are to be enrolled on an honours board in the School, and it.is intended to make this ' 'an' annual event.' The committee had provided an ample supply of sweets and fruit by way of refreshment, and .the outing was thoroughly enjoyed, ffhe following is the result of the chief /events 1 Bpys.—looyds., C.
