Scott pleaded guilty to a charge 'of stealing at Lyttelton on March 18, •12 drums of oil valued' at £12, and a bundle; of copper rods valued at £5, (the _ property of the Shaw, Sayill, and [Albion Company.. _ " • i Sub-Inspector Hastie said Scott had teen boatswain's mate on the steamer .iTainui and took, the oil and copper from the ship and handed them over to ''another man. .'' The Magistrate inquired whether ' there were not others to Tie charged in connection with the theft of this material. ■ V . The .sub-inspector said that two other taen had been charged with theft and two more with receiving stolen goods. These cases had heeii adjourned till next at Lyttelton. It was "understood that a plea of no,t guilty Would ho entered by the other accused. \ His Worship said that all the cases ■Should be brought to Christchurch for hearing as it would have an effeot upon ■the sentence he would inflict upon Scott he knew what attitude he had ■taken up in regard to giving evidence. !. lAcoused was remanded till Wednesday next for sentence. The police are to for the removal of the hearing jof the other cases to Christchurch.
