A BISHOP ON THE WARPATH
EXCOMMUNICATES ANOTHER BISHOP
(By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.)
(Rec. April 2, 4.30 p.m.)
London, April 2. The Anglican Bishop of Zanzibar (Dr. Weston) has excommunicated the Bishop of Hereford (Dr. Percival) for appointing the Rev. B. H. Streeter to a canonry of Hereford. Mr. Streeter is a Broad Churchman. Dr./Weston refuses to have any communion in sacred things with tho Bishop of Horeford.
The preciso meaning of the above cablegram is rather obscure. The Bishop of Zanzibar has no jurisdiction over the Bishop of Hereford, and cannot excommunicato him in the proper sense of the term. He certainly has no power to expol Dr. Percival from the communion of the Church. He may, of course, personally refuse to have communion with him, which is a very different matter. The incident is one of the outcomes of the Kikuyu controversy.
