The revenue for tho financial Year ended March 31 totalled £2213,694,080, of which Customs contributed £38,602,000, excise £42,313,000, stamps, £7,577,000, and income tax £00,389,000. As the result of a recent inquiry, Major o'Donnell, Assic-tant-Director of Transports and Supply, has heen charged with allegedly refusing to answer certairi. questions, and declining to take the oath. DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS. London, March 31. The Board of Trade lias appointed the Hon. T. Mackenzie (High Commissioner for Now Zealand), Sir Thomas Robinsoli (Agent-General for Queensland), and Sir Montague Nelson to bo a committee to deal with any question arising in connection with the surplus of the Australian lamb and New Zealand mutton and lamb purchased by tlie Imperial Government. PETROL BOMBS FIRED BY THE • - GERMANS. London, March 31. A doctor serving with the Field Artillery confirms the report of the German use of-petrol bombs. He says: "Most of the men in one section of our trenches were burned to death." The writer - adds: "in some of the storming parties at Neuve Chapelle not a single officer or man wa6 left alive." AUSTRALIAN CONSIGNEES TAKE ACTION. Adelaide, April 1. Mr. Caleb Allen, manager for Harris and Scarfe,' Ltd., has arranged to visit Java in the interests of . the Australian consignees of cargo interned there. in German vessels, and valued at £200,000. Mr. Allen leaves on April 17. ' MISCELLANEOUS : BIG MAIL FOR -THE "LONELY SOLDIER." , .London, March 31. The Postmaster-General states that the Postal Department daily sends 400,000 letters and 50,000 parcels to the front.
