HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
V (From Our Special Correspondent.) Some excitement was caused on "Wednesday afternoon at Petone when it was found that a ; boat had drifted out from Petone Wharf with five boyn in it, the cTdest being 16 years of age. The'others were 12 years, 11 years, 8 .years, and 5 years old. The hoys wero brothers, sons of Mr. W. Ward, of Kyan Street, l'etono. Tho father, and another son and a nephew immediately went out wit"i a small boat to the rescue. Tho wind was so strong and tho sea so rough that it was impossible for the 'father to bring the boys home, and his boat witli tho other began drifting further. Mr. D. Fraser's motor-launoli went out, and rescued both boats, and brought the occupants safely to shore. Last evening, Bro. J. Rose presided at a meeting of the Hope of Petone Lodgo, 1.0. G.T., Ono new member was initiated and two proposed. _ Bro. Congdon, D.M.D., from the Pioneer lAdfto, was welcomed, and a pleasant ovening was spent in harmony. About thirty couples attended a social bold under tho auspices of the Petono Bowing Club last.-ovenm«-at St. Augusfcino's Hall, Petone, Mossrs. Parrant and Tremain acted as M.C.'s, and Mrs. Pollock supplied tho music- An enjoyable time was spent.
