March 31, 9.55 p.m.) '' ■ Y , Sydney,.M?rch 31. • -Dr. Neumann has sued the "newspaper "The Orange Leader" for £2000 damages for" alleged libel, in commentinc, without mentioning any name, on the fact that a German doctor had not passed a sihgle candidate as fit to take; up arms against his countrymen. ■ Tho evidence showed that the plain-' tiff,,who was a naturalised citizen,-had.' •passed 29 out of tho 32 candidates -hei. had examined. Defendant's counsel, contended that' the article had been published from a high sense of public duty, and contained no personal' malice.. "No name was mentioned.--' -' A verdict was given ! ' for tho 1 defendant.
