THE BIG POLL
ONLY FOUR WEEKS AWAY. At 6 p.m. yesterday the time for enrolling on the supplementary municipal electors' roll closed, and no more names call now l be added for tho elections that are to tiilte place this day four weeks (April 28). Theso elections will bo for tho Mayor and City Council, tho Wellington Harbour Board, tho Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board, and the poll for a universal Saturday half-holiday. With live issues to attend to, the returning officers' staff is bound to have a very busy time, and it will assist those officials if tho electors will think out exactly what they are goin<* to do, and do it in a proper and legal manner. There will only bo about- a thousand uames on the supplementary Toll, which will make tho total number of names on the roll between A3,000 and 34,000. Tho Town' Clerk (Mr. j. R. Palmer) is gratified at the number of names oil the supplementary roll being, comparatively, so few. It is, ho considers, the result of advising tho public freely and often as to tho dato of tho closing of tho main roll. 'Thanks to a pretty thorough purging, Mr. Palmor thinks that tho new roll will bo found to bo one of the cleanest yet issued. No election roll ever issued was perfect, mistakes were inevitable, but there will be fewer errors this time than Before, owing to the searching scrutiny V/ifioh has been made. Rolls should be available for. the public next week.
