CARTERTON NEWS
The Maoris of the South Wairarapa have decided to hold a series of dances in the meeting-house at Papawai during the winter evenings, the proceeds to be devoted to the wa^'siffferers. On the eve of his departure to take up farming in .the Bay of Plenty district, Mr. C. Downard, choirmaster, was presented with a- handsome Cathedral prayer-book from St. Mark's Church choir. A patriotic concert is being organised m Carterton in aid of the war funds. Mr. W. Howard Booth has promised a flag for auction, and it is understood that it will'bear the Belgiaif colours. iThe recent rains in the Wairarapa have had a marked effeot upon the pastures, and the grass is now coming along well, and there should bo ample_ winter feeding for the stock. The health of Mr. T. W. Foster, of Carterton, who is dangerously ill, lias shown 110 improvement during the past few days, and his family, have been summoned.
