NOTES AND COMMENTS

TBi Glßncoe.l

There will .be racing at Ellerslie and Tauherinikau on Saturday next. At the former meeting the big event will be the Easter Handicap, ono mile. Eighteen horses have been left in after the final payment, and the class represented is quite up to the standard of former years.

Tho withdrawal of Tree Lucerne from the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton probably means that the chestnut gelding has developed leg troubles, as ho is not engaged at any other meetings next week.

The acceptances received for tike Feilding Meeting are satisfactory. The Huntors 1 Steeplechase, which figures on tho programme for the first timo, has filled particularly well, and the club should bo quite satisfied with the innovation. Mr. E. Short, who suggested that the toco 6hould appear on the programme, is giving a gold oup, valued at 100 sovs., to the winner.

Up till 10 p.m. this evening, Secretary .T. M. Johnston, of tho Mauawatu Racing Club, will receive entries for the Autumn Meeting, to bo held on April 21 and 22. ■ Rewi Poto has been paid up for in both the Majigaone Stakes and the Feilding Cup, to be run on Monday. Several othar horses have dual engagements on the same day, amongst tho number being Avon Park, ICing Chiara, Ratana,. and Master Adhilles.

The Marlborough Racine Club will this year hold its Autumn Meeting on May 5 and 6. There are seven events on each day, and all classes are catered for. The Marlborough Cup. ruii over a mile and a quarter, carries 250 sovs. as stake money, including a silver cup valued at £50. Nominations close on Friday, April 16.

The Champagne Stakes, to be decided at Riccarton on Monday, promises to bo a battlo between the elect of tho Chokebore and Greenwood stables. Adjutant, Battlo Eve, -and Flying Start have been left in for Sir Geo. Clifford, and Xanthos and Nones will carry Mr. Greenwood's colours. The Challenge Stakes ibas a good field, and the' meeting between Emperador, Autumnus, Sauci, and Croesus should be productive of a stirring finish.

Acceptances for the Canterbury Jockoy Club's Autumn Meeting are due to-mor-row night. There is also another payment for the Great Easter and Autumn Handicaps and the Champagne and Challenge Stakes.

• Despite the fact that Chudic has been refusing to work on the tracks recently, last year's winner will liavo plenty of support for the big 'handicap at Riccarton on Monday next.

Bclasco was sent north by the Main Trunk express last evening. His stable companion, Gold Soull, goes south tonight.

Kina is to bo raced on the West Coast at Uaster. He will bo shipped to Greymouth this week.

J. AV. Lowe, with Kilrain, and J. Ayere, with Ladoga, are going south to-nigiit.
