THE BATTLESHIPS

London, Maroh 29. Keports from Tenedos state that tlio weather is excellent for the mine-sweep-ing operations, which continue under cover of the fire from the battleships. The Turks at Kilid Ealir fired on the warships, but were promptly silenced. It is estimated that the Allies are tiring three shells a minute. The firing from the Gulf of Saros was directed by the warships at tho entrance to the straits, and was apparently effective. Volumes of smoke rose up from tho Gallipoli heights, and also on the Dardanelles shore.
Much of tho tiring was directed at the new works at Fort Kum Kale, from which dense emoke roso in an hour.
