A full muster of the South Kilbirnie branch of the National Reserve is re- | quested at its meeting at the South Kilbirnie School at 8 o'clock on Tuesday ! evening. By order of the holder of the bill of lading Messrs. B. Johnston and Co., 157 Lambton Quay, will auction a valuable consignment of 2SO Turkish hearthrugs, Aximnster carpets, and runners, and linoleum on Monday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock. At the Sailors' Friend _ Society last night a very pleasant evening was spent, when Miss Petherick provided a programme of music. During the evening a short story competition was held. Mr. Moore, the missionor, laid stress on the fact that the institute was open on Sundays. and invited seamen to bo present on that day. At the conclusion of the concert a rote of thanks was moved by the missioner, and responded to by Mies Potherick. Items were rendered by Mrs. Bfircham, Misses Petherick ' (2), Hdok, Darbies, Mrs. Lewis, MfiSsrf. Barcham and Hanion. The missioner invited friends of the institute to send'in discarded books and magazines for the use of seamen.
