AUSTRALASIAN SHIPPING TRADE
At a meeting of the Australasian Trade Section of the London Chamber of Commerce the question of American shipments to Australasia was considered, and it was pointed out thjit. the Hansa lines and the' German Australian steamship lines, from New' York to Australasia, which are unable at present .to offer- space in German-owned, vessels, aspire to keep their.connection together by means of vessels sailing under • the British flag, with a view to the resumption of the ordinary German lines' services at the termination of tho war. The section was. of opinion that goods shipped from the United States to Australasia should be carried either in British or Ainer.ican-owncd bottoms, and it was unanimously resolved' to. recommend all members of the section to instruct their agents in New York to ship all goods on, their accoulit only; by vessels loaded by firms representing . genuine, bona fide-British interests.
