RM.S. NIAGARA, FOE VANCOUVER.
A Press Association message received fjom Auckend la.st evening states that repairs to R.1f.6. Niagara were completed at that port yesterday. The liner was brought safely out of Calliope Dook, and she is now loading at the Queen's Wharf. Departure will be taken from Auckland for Vancouver at 10 a.m. to-day. Concerning the docking of the largest liner visiting New Zealand ports, the "New Zealand Herald" says:—"When safely in dook the vessel practically filled all available space, her bow' being 10ft. up the break in the far end of the dock, and her rudder, slightly turnod out of the straight, being only about IZin. from the oydseon which.forme the other end of the dock. As the broadest part of the Niagara, passed through the entrance to the dock, there was about sft. Sin. to spare on either side, but when the vessel settled down on the blocks it was founff that at both 6tem and stern there wa6 just Ift. to spare, and on either side a bare lOin. An examination of the Niagara, after the water had been' pumped from the dock proved former abatements as to the damage sustained during her • trip from Sydney' to be correct. One of the blades of the centre propeller wa6 missing, while the lining of the tube carrying the shaft affected was injured. Repair work was coomenced immediately, and was carried on throughout the night the whole time she occupied the dock.
The Union Company's R.M S. Makure, which cleared Vancouver at 8 .p:m. on Wednesday, March 17, is due at Auckland on Bunday, April 4. She has 118 pastenj;ers and several hundred tons of cargo on bi~ard for New Zealand ports. The liner is scheduled to sail for Sydney at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 5.
