WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND
FINANCIAL RESULT OF ATHLETIC MEETING. The profit from the New _ Zealand Amateur Athletic Championship meeting, which was held in Wellington on March 13, is £84 los. 5d., and this amount is to be utilised to start a fund for wounded soldiers and soldiers dependents of the Wellington Provincial District. The takings at the meeting were:— Gates, £109 45.; tickets, £22 Bs.; grandstand, £3 65.; programmes. £17. lis.; advertisements in programmes, £21; entries, £20 75.; afternoon tea, £20 195.; total, £204 15s. The expenses of the meeting totalled £119 19s. 7d., which amount is said to he lower than the cost of any previous championship meeting. The Executive Committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association has expressed the opinion that the ground was worked into excellent order for the meeting, and has written thanking Mr. B. Brewer (groundsman at the Basin Reserve) for this. The committee voted Mr. Brewer £2 2s. for his services, and Tegretted that the amount was not greater. Members said that the track was one of the best the association had ever used. Votes of thanks were accorded the Prime Minister (the Richt Hon. W. F. Massey), the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luko), Messrs. J. Godber, Barton, and G. Frost; Mesdames C. G. Wilson, J. i Luke, and Moorehouse, and the proprietors of the city newspapers.
