AUSTRIAN NIGHT ATTACK FRUITLESS DIVERSION TO SAVE PRZJEMYSL Petrograd, March 24. Twenty Austrian battalions, _ under cover of hurricane fire from 12-inch howitzers, attacked greatly inferior forces on the Liuzna-Ropica-Russka front on Friday. Official—Three Austrian regiments made a desperate night attack on March 13 in the Seukowka Mussina-Male sector, in order to distract attention from Przemysl and enable a decisive sortie. The Russians drove the Austrians across the Senkowka River, with inimense losses, and took five hundred prisoners. The 39th Honved Division renewed the attack. The men were absolutely intoxicated with battle; they crossed. the_ wire entanglements, despite immense losses, and stormed the Stashkowka height with mad fury, 'file position changed hands three times, but eventually the Honveds were driven off. The Russians were furious when they first lost the trenches, and gave no quarter in the hand-to-hand fighting. They pursued the enemy for a great distance, using their bayonets and the butt-ends of the guns.

ENORMOUS LOSSES OF THE ENEMY. Petrograd, March 24. It is understood that seven hundred big guns, and many field pieces and machine guns, were captured at Przemysl. (Rec. March 25, 9.30 p.m.) Official—"Fights for isolated vantage points on the right bank of the Narew (ono the East Prussian front, southern frontier operations) have become more general and moro desperate. The Germans, strongly reinforced, are stubbornly defending tlioir positions, and subject- us to a hurricane of fire. They make vigorous counter-attacks with numerous fresh troops.
