VALUATION FOE. PROBATE. Some interesting details of the valuation of the estate of the late Mr. J. Pierpont Morgan are published in the "American Art A T ews." The valuation has been going on for some months, and is even yet incomplete. The contents of the residence, 219 Aladison Avenue have been appraised i at over £'200,000. The Morgan library, a separate building, contains taxable' goods to the value of £50.750, but this amount does not include tne unique collection of printed books and manuscripts. Silverware and miscellaneous jewels of the value of- £34,461 were found in a vault in the house. An Aubusson tapestry from a design by F. Boucher, and dating from 1755 was appraised at £10,000, a picture by Corot a' £4000, and Houdon's marble statue, "Vestal Virgin," 1787 at £2000. Some of the porcelain appears in tha list at high figures—a set of five vases of the Yung Ching period, at £7000; a majolica vase, with polychrome decorations of pastoral scenes, £3000. . The contents of the dining-room are placed at £20,141. Among them a picture byJames Stark is valued at £3000, and one by Joseph Israels at £2000. Among the paintings which are not on loan at the Metropolitan Sluseuh in New York, are a few at present arranged in the library. Ghirlandaio's portrait of Giovanna Tornabueni is valued at £5000, and works of Pinturrichio, Vivarini, Cima da Conegliano, and others are valued at £3000 each. These few but highly important works by the old masters were acquired by Mr. Morgan during the last two or three years of his life, and after the publication of the "Catalogue Eaisonne'' of his pictures. The appraisement does not include his fine collection of mezzotint engravings nor any of the objects a !l which, take up several rooms at the Metropolitan Museum
