ONSLOW WATER SCHEME.
S ,r .i I see as the result of the special meeting of the Onslow Borough Council held on Monday to consider the petition of a section of tho ratepayers for a poll oil tho water supply, the council are so fully satisfied with the certainty of a sufficiency of water for three or '" ur times the population (to quote tho Mayor.'s dictum), and with tile absurdity of doubting the council's engineer's decision, that they are having an outside oxpert opinion on the whole matter. At the same time they are obtaining outside legal opinion on the compensation question. As very considerable expense must already, have been incurred by the council, it is to bo sincerely hoped that in the event of an adverse opinion on either points or in the probability of a defeat at the polls- on the question, the doughty champions of the present water 6cheme and of the council, will guarantee the ratepayers against their expenses, and thus prove they fro prepared to back their opinions with something more than words.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
