LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL
There were present at last evening's meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council, tho Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin), and Councillors Hodgins, Moldrum, ICempthorno, Brassel, Clendon, Parsonage, Ball, and Hobbs. An extract from the N.Z. Gazette, appointing Wednesday to bo the statutory closing day for shops in the combined district of Hutt and Petone, was received from the Minister of Labour. V In reply t-o a request from the Runanga Borough Council, that its resolution calling upon the Government to ■regulate the prices of necessities should be supported, it was decided, on the motion of Councillor Ball, that the resolution should be supported. It was agreed that the Easter holidays to be observed should be from Thursday, April 1, to Tuesday, April 6, and that the council's staff should be granted a paid holiday on Easter Saturday. 1 'Die Wellington Rugby Football "Union asked if the council would be prepared to let the recreation ground for football for the coming season, and requested the council to state the'terms. It was decided that tenders should be called for the use of the ground for football, and the matter then referred to the Recreation Ground Committee, with power to act. A deputation, representing the Hutt Fire Brigade, waited upon the council to ask for assistance in procuring the body of a fire motor. Mr. M'llvride stated that the brigade had about £10 in hand, and members would be glad to assist the council in any way to procure the body. It was agreed to call tenders for the chassis. . The usual report from the engineer was received.
