HUTT PARK COMMITTEE
TROTTING CLUB LEASE CONFIRMED. A special meeting of the Hutt Park Committeo was held last evening to consider the proposed lease of tho Park by the Hutt Valley Trotting Club. TTiere was a full attendance of members, and the chairman (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) explained, in connection with the sports grounds, that a report and plan had been submitted by the Petone Borough Engineer (Mr. A. Cowie), and the position of the grounds and the chances of their being interfered with by the proposed trotting or training tracks. A letter was read from the Trotting Club, which stated that the club would agree to the committee removing any portion of the fence along the straight, if desired, providing that the material be preserved when taken down, and that the fence be re-erected before the day upon which the tracks would be required. The letter also stated that the fence along the straight would be removable. It was decided to approve of' the plan subject to the conditions of the lease.
The question of the length of the lease was then discussed, Mr, Harcourt advocating a shorter term than 15 years. " „ Brockelbank considered 10 years sufficient, and moved the motion of which notice had been given, that the clause dealing with the length of lease (lo years) be rescinded. This was lost by four votes to two, the mover and i~, Ua £ C(ynrt votin 2- for and Messrs. Hobbs, Townsend, Brassel, and Hodgins agauist. &
