NEWSPAPER AND CENSOR

A RECENT PROSECUTION. Melbourne, March 23. Th« Federal High Court has rescinded the special leave to appeal which had been granted to the Commonwealth in connection with a case in which the censor unsuccessfully proceeded against tho Perth "Daily News" for publishing certain news relating to the defence ol the Suez Canal. The Chief Justice said that the only point at issue was whether the Police Magistrate's opinion in tho case was against the weight of the evidence, and the High Court never granted special leave to appeal on the grounds that- the opinion of the Court below was against the weight of the evidence. The other Judges concurred. In the year 1863 the late Archdeacon Samuel Williams founded ithe wcillknown Te Ante herd of Shorthorn cattie, by the importation of a number of pedigree animals from England and Australia. On April 14. 15, and 16 this herd of pedigree stock will be sold by Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Ltd., Napier,, wheo the.v will hold a, dispersal-■ sale of ■ the well-known herd of Shorthorn cattle and' flock of English Leicesters. The Shorthorn cattle and the Leicester sheep have been remarkably successful at ■ agricultural shows throughout the Dominion and Australia.
