Tlie Hon. W. Fraser will leave on » few days' visit to Nelson and Motueka this evening. The Hon. J. Allen left for Napier en route to Gisborne yesterday. Mr. M. Myers, of the legal firm of 8011, Gully, Bell, and Myers, accompanied by Mrs. Myers, lias left Wellington for Auckland to catch the Niagara fflr Vancouver; It is their intention to make n tour of Canada and the United States. Most of the leading Soman Catholio clergy of both Islands will be present at the funeral obsequies of the late Bishop Grimes, of Christchurch, whose remains arrived from Sydney by the Manuka yesterday, and were forwarded on to Lytlelton last- evening. His Grace Co-adjutor-Archbishop O'Shea will be the panegyrist, and Bishop ■ Cleary, of Auckland, the celebrant. The Rev. Dean Eolley, of Wanganui, passed through Wellington yesterday to attend the funeral. Defence Headquarters in Wellington have received advice that Private Dougas Sehvood Hewett, of the 16th (Waikato) Regiment, 'with the Main Expedition in Egypt, died of pneumonia on March 21. Deceased's next of kin was Mr. M. S. Hewett, of Bombay, India. Out of 20 applicants for the position of assistant-lady teacher at the Gisborne High School, Miss Holmden, M.A., assistant in the Secondary Department of the Waihi District High School, has been selected for the post and will take up her duties about May 1. —Press Association. Private Adolphus Michael Brennan, Otago Infantry. Company, 4th Reinforcements, died ut Wellington Hospital at an early hour yesterday morning from haemorrhage. He was admitted to the Hospital on February 12. His nest of kin is Mr. James Brennan, North-East Valley, Dunedin. The interment will be private, at tho request of the relatives. Mr. C. Elgar, who is at present in England, is to be asked to represent the Wairarapa P. and A. Society at the annual meeting of the National Sheep Breeders' Association, to be held at Nottingham on July 28. " Lieut-.-Colonel Creswell, of . Christchurch, and Mr. Frank Talbot, of Sydney, are staying at the Albert Hotel. Mr. Robert Home, manager of the Bristol Piano Company at Christchurch, is a visitor to Wellington. He is to be Aiarriod on Saturday next at St. Luke's Church, Lower Hutt, to Miss Daisy Parsons, of Perth, who arrived from Sydney by the Manuka last evening. Miss Parsons isajiiece of Mr. 0. H. Tr,eadwell, of the Hutt. Mr. William Skilton, late of the Wellington Harbour Board staff, who has joined the artillery branch in the 4th Reinforcements, was presented on Sunday last with a wrist-watch by his friends. Mr. Skilton was for some years a Wellington representative footballer. The resignation of the headmaster of tho Napier Boys' High School was considered by a special meeting of tlia Board of Governors on Monday. After Mr. Heaton's letter had been read, it was resolved to accept his resignation and to release him from the end of this term, and to pay him salary and house allowance to the end of tile year. Mr. J. Stewart, a vice-president and ex-president of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce, who has decided to go to England in order to offerhis services at the front, was entertained at a gathering of members of the Chamber on Friday evening, and presented with a gold spvereign-case, suitably inscribed. Mr. H. S. W. King, president of tho Chamber, made tho presentation. Mr. Stewart is a captain in the Motor Reserve, and intends to provide himself with a car for servic«. Special services in memory of the late Rev. H. F. Macnicol were held at St. James's Presbyterian Church, Auckland, last Sunday ( aiid were attended by large congregations. Mr. Macnicol was minister at St. James' 6 Church for 33 years, and retired in 1902, on account of ill-health. He subsequently went to Sydney, where ho died recently. The sermon at the morning service was preached by the Rev. R. Sommcrville, who paid a high tribute Vo the work of the late Mr; Macnicol. The Rev. R. L. Walker occupied the pulpit in the evening, and he also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Macnicol, who, he said, wa6 a man dearly loved by all.
