BELGIAN RELIEF

1 "IT ALL HELPS!" AN ACTOR IN THE WAREHOUSE. It is not a common sight to witness a popular actor making a speech to a crowd of shop assistants, vet this happened at Kirkcaldie and Stains's warehouse last evening. During the day Messrs. John and Sidney Kirkcaldie had purchased 400 gallery seats for "Lady Windermere's Fan," and in thanking them last evening for the splendid example set, Mr. Winter Hall made a fine •speech, setting out tho objects of the tour and why lie and Mr. Plimmer had decided to make the effort to produce a large cheque in aid of those who had i fought so bravely in their own defence and had so materially helped to preserve the integrity of the Empire. He begged them one and all to help in the good work which would, he was sure, bring its own reward. Mr Hall was given a splendid hearing, and at the termination of his remark's was warmly applauded. Messrs. George and Kersley and Messrs. George and George, of Cuba Street, have also intimated their intention of helping, and Mr. Hall is to : address the employees of the latter firm this morning. The good example set in Wellington is already bearing fruit. Mr. J. A. Frostick, of Christchurch, has already intimated that he will treat 200 of his employees to "Lady Windermere's Fan" when the company visits that city. As one prominent business man said yesterday: "It all helps!" THE "TIFPERARY" BADGES. In connection with the sale of the green ribbon "Tippera.ry"_ badges, sold on St. Patrick's Day, in aid of the Belgian Fund, Mr. Barry Keesing, its orig. inator, states that it will realise approximately £45. He wishes to thank Miss Griffen, the secretary of tie ladies' branch of the Hibernian Society, the Wellington Warehousemen's Association (who supplied the ribbon free of cost), The Dominion, "Times," and City Printing Company (who did the printing for nothing), and all sellers of the badges for the help given in connection with the scheme. RAILWAYMEN'S BELGIAN NIGHT. Their Excellencies the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool have expressed their intention of being present at the grand assault-at-arms and jiujitsu display to be. given in tho Town Hall next Friday evening. The Prime Minister, with other Ministers of the Crown, Sir Joseph Ward, His Worship tho Mayor, and many prominent citizens will also be in attendance. It is anticipated that patriotio music will be a feature of the evening, and to enable the entire audience to harmoniously voice their patriotic feelings the souvenir programmes will contain the words of the songs, with an invitation to the. audience to heartily join in''the choruses. Apart from the worthy object, the programme promises to be most interesting, and as the railwaymen have secured the co-opera-tion. of an enthusiastic committee of ladies, a bumper house should be assured.
