W.C.T.U.
ANNUAL CONVENTION. (fly Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christohurch, March 22. At the W.C.T.U. Convention there was a long discussion on Sabbath observance. Regret was expressed at tlie trades' unions in various centres holding picnics on the Sabbath Day. It was resolved, in view of the fact that so many persons of both sexes, who are beyond the age of reformatories, are convicted of moral offences: "We resolve to co-operate with other organisations in asking for legislation for the purpose of providing institutions of the nature of a farm colony where such people can be detained for an indeterminate timo, these institutions to be under the control of a board composed of an equal number of men and women." It was resolved: "That legislation be sought to provide that in future_ prohibition orders remain in force until their revocation be applied for, and proof given that self-control is restored." "That This convention strongly urges upon the Government the appointment of women police in New Zealand, and that the Minister of Defence be urged to take immediate steps to appoint women patrols to work in tho neighbourhood of military camps for tho safeguarding of young people, and for tho prevention of disorderly conduct."
