The British Admiralty announces that since the beginning of the war fifty-four British merchant vessels have been sunk or captured by enemy.cruisers, twelve were mined, and thirty torsubmarines, t0ta11ing;332,770 tons.: The arrivals in and sailings from United Kingdom ports of steamers of all nationalities exceeding three hundred tons numbered 42,264, of which number 143 were lost.
