* : DUKE KAHANAMOKU AT AUCKLAND. (By Telegranh.—Press Association.) Auckland, March 21. xhe fourth and final events of the Kahanamoku carnival were held in the tepid, bath yesterday, in the presence of over 1000 people. Kahanamoku was second in the 100 yards handicap, wlfich was won by A. O'Hare, with Cunha third.. Kahanamoku's time was 53 3-ssec. Cunha, with Miss F. Verrall, won the dual relay race, and Kahanamoku, with Miss E. Ferguson, was second. The Hawaiians were not placed in the 50 yards handicap. They left for Hamilton last evening, en route to Rotorua, where to-dav and part of to-morrow will be spent. Tomorrow evening thoy will take part in a gala at Hamilton, and will return to Auckland on Tuesday in time to catch the steamer for Honolulu. LIFE-SAVING AWARDS. Examinations for the Royal Life Saving Society awards were held on Saturday afternoon at the Thorndon Baths. Twelve candidates were presented by the Kelburn Boy Scouts, and all were successful in passing the tests for which they had entered. The following are the names of the candidates: —Bronze medallion and proficiency certificates: E. Arcus, F. D. Grant R. F. Grant, J. Athya, R. Fox, N. Skinner, and C. Reid. Bronze medallion (already holding proficiency certificates): D. Richardson, and J. Jenkins. Proficiency certificates: E. Diehi. K. Box, and P. Holmes. The class was presented for examination by Troop Sergeant A. Prince, who was awarded an hon. instructor's certificate. The examiners were Messrs. G. Neal and —. Wray. MOTOR LAUNCH RACING. The Port Nicholson Motor Boat Club held a race over the Seatoun course on Saturday afternoon, seven launches competing. The weather conditions were ideal and close finishes resulted. Following is the_ result: — AVolseley, 12min., 1; Nellie, 3jmin., 2; Scotia, Bmin., 3. Also started: — Waitohi, 6min.; Veronica, 6min.; Manutai, 2imin.; and Naomi 111, omin.
