NATIONAL RESERVE

On Tuesday and Wednesday about 100 men of tho Island Ray-Bcr'hatiiporo section of the National Reserve attended tho drill parades and showed what excellent results may be obtained by consistent drill. The organisation is going ahead strongly in this district, and there is every reason to anticipate that Island Bay-Berhampore will enrol sufficient members to form a full company. At the parades it was announced that Mr. R. Keene had granted the section permission to use the Island Bay Hall for drill purposes; and a further announcement was made that the owners of the Terawhiti 10stato had granted a piece of land for tho purpose of a rifle range. The site is an cxcpllpnt one, and the authorities are satisfied that it is safe in every way. It is very conveniently situated for tho members of this section, and immediate stops arc being taken to prepare and equip tho rango so that riflo practice may commence at an early date. At-last evening's meeting of the Petone branch of the National Reserve the following officers were elected:— Captain, T. Watson; lieutenant, A. Anderson. It was decided to leave tho appointment of tho remaining officers in the hands of the captain and lieutenant, the aspirants to undergo an examination.
