On January 10, 1840, 'penny post waa instituted. The Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence, will preside at the K.K. Patriotic Pledge meeting to-night in tha Town Hall (Concert Chamber). Addresses will be given by Dr. .Platts-Mill6, Dr. Gibb, Hot. A. M. Johnson (Vicar of St. Paul's), Colonel Powley. The soloists during the evening will be the Misses Brittain. All civilians as well as soldiers are invited .to ■ attend and support lord Kitchener and defend the Empire. The meeting will commenco at 8 p.m. Messrs. A. L. Wil6on and Co. will hold a great fur sale on behalf of the Eussion Fur Co., of their valuable stock of Russian fuvs. The sals day has been set down for Wednesday, March 24. Two days prior to the sale, viz., Monday and Tuesday, the public will have an opportunity of viewing the goods at the auctioneers' rooms, 151-153 Lamb ton Qaay, where experts will be in attendance,
