A NEW SLIP
MINISTER AS ARBITRATOR. •The much-argued question of whetherthe Wellington Patent Slip Company should or should not comply with the request iof the Wellington Harbour Board to lay down a second slip at Evans Bay is approaching settlement. Tho company, in terms of their charter, are under obligation to build a new slip as soon ns the board deems that such is necessary, and in the event of the company and tho board disagreeing t'he Act provides for the Minister of Marino acting as* arbitrator. The company and the board havo disagreed on this question—have in fact keen disagreeing for sortie years —and now the point at issue will be settled by the Minister. t . Representatives of the interested parties met tho Minister (the Hon. W. H. Herries) in. his room yesterday and laid the case before him, both by argument and the calling of expert evidence. The Minister has not yet made known his decision.
