Clsborne, March 18. _ .The Supreme Court is engaged in hearing a civil action, Dr. William Patrick M'Eldowney, of Portsmouth, England, versus Mrs. W. J. Buttimore. Gisborne', .a claim for £6000 damages for alleged slander. The • statement _of claim alleges that defendant, the niece of one James Gibson, deceased, spoke defamatory words concerning plaintiff (a nephew of deceased),' alleging that he was given to drink, and as a consequence Gibson's will was altered, and a clause devising land valued at £6000 to plaintiff was revoked, no provision being made for him: Evidence in support of plaintiff's claim had been taken in England. Defendant denied the .use of the words, and > pleaded privilege. Tie case is proceeding.
