TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON.

(By Telegraph.—Special CorreipondonU Christchurch, March 18. The "Looker-Oil," writing in the "News" of the work done at Riccarton this morning, says:— Autumnus pulled up sound after running a mile on the plough. He was under a pull all the time, and galloped very determinedly. Battle Eve and Flying Start, both very fresh, did six furlongs on the plough at three-quarter pace together. Somnabulist and Merry Guest went at three-tfuarter pace. Both are very keen workers. After cantering once round Don Francisco and Court Martial went another circuit at a strong pace. Court Martial did her share pleasingly.. Don Francisco was in a sluggish mood. Harlequin, who was worked by himself, was not asked to do better than three-quarter pace. He was moving rather stilly behind. Bimeter sprinted a few furlongs- well on the bit. Reval was given a round on the plough at half-pace, and pulled very hard while doing it. He does not show a trace of soreness. t Banksia could not have done much better while running six furlongs on the plough. Emperador, who is in the best of health, had Camulus in serious trouble all the way, while not doing his best himself in a gallop over three-quarters of a mile on the plough. The time was by no means sensational. Merry Trick, who went very scratchily, was worked by herself at a shade better than three-quarter pace. Charmilla is coming back to form. She gave Honesty a bad beating over five furlongs on the plough in good time. Nightwatch had Snapdragon for a companion in a good working gallop over ten furlongs,_ and pulled hard all the way. ' Medallist pulled up sound after running half a mile on the grass under a jJnll. A few mornings ago a prominent Riccarton trainer offered, in the presence of their owner, to trade all the horses he had in training for Warstep. The latter's trainer politely declined to deal, owing to the high price of oats. Pilgrim's Way has lost all form, and Lady Minerva, who is as sore as she could be, had no difficulty in beating him in a sprint. Warstep was given a strong mile on the plough, with Chrysotis for a companion. The little mare was not very anxious to gallop, and Emerson had no difficulty in holding her back alongside Chrysotis. Fabrikoff gave a good bit of weight to Firegod over five furlongs on the grass, and finished alongside him. First Glance did not please too well while running six furlongs on teh plough. Sartoze had Twelfth Night beaten at the end of a fast run of six furlongs, and finished full of running. Treadfire and Samisen sprinted half a mile together on the plough. Treadfire was ridden out with the whip/ but could not hold Samisen. The time was not very good. The two hurdlers—Daylight Bill and Andrea—were associated in a good working eallop over ten furlongs. Athenic had The Cornet for a companion over seven furlongs, but they did not go at any pace. Troon is coming on again. She sprinted four furlongs well to-day.
