TRACK WORK AT OPAKI.

(By Tcleiraph—Special Masterton, March 16. In view of the approaching race meeting a. good deal of work was done on the truck at Opaki this morning. Practically all the work was done on the plough. The going was very firm and a little more rain is needed. . The first horse to 6tep on thie track was Veronal, who brushed over four furlongs. 'two Lights and Three finished level after a. four-furlongs gallop. Sir Knox, with a light weight, moved nicely over a mile, finishing well in lmin. 47s:c. The local Cup candidate seems to be coming back to nis best form, and despite his big weight is expected to run well in his engagement. Goldstream (M. ll'Donald) finished the last four of six furlongs in 53sec. Goldstream is greatly fancied locally. Whisperer (O'Hallorau) strode once round at half pace. Rmatangata had the advantage over Saxatile after five furlongs, traversed in lmin. usee. George (M'Donald) was given easy pacing, twice ro.und. fiockaby (.M'Donald) had a slight advantage of Botanist (O'Halloran) over a four-furlongs flutter in 53 4-ssec. fiaupani and Multikoff, the Gisborno representatives, put in .an appearance. The former, looking exceedingly well, trotted once round and then ran six furlongs easily in lmin. 20sec. Multikoff was given walking exercise. H. Pritchard's team, consisting of Blue Lake and Captain Glossop, was worked after breakfast. Blue .Lake went once round at half pace, and sprinted three furlongs. Prince laddo has been scratched for all engagements.
