PATENT SLIP EMPLOYEES' PICNIC

The employees of the Wellington Patent Slip held their second annual picnic on Saturday at Maidstone Park. There were_over 150 people present, and a most enjoyable day was spent. A very good programme of sports was gone through, and the' following are Bome of the results -.—Apprentice Race: Hollis, 1; Briarley, 2. Sack Race: Stick, 1; Brown, 2. Patent Slip Handicap : Millar, 1; Jeffries, 2. Old Buffers' Race: Hewitt, 1; Gason, 2. Young Women's Race: Miss Hunt, 1; Miss Dick, 2. Married Men's Race; Murray, 1; Brown, 2. Medley Race: Moodie. 1; Orr, 2. Married Women's Race :• Mrs. Louis, 1; Mrs. Saren, 2. Tug-of-War: Enginers, 1; Shipwrights, 2. Committeemen's Race: Cameron, 1; Colville, 2. The races were very exciting, and some close finishes wore witnessed, whilst the tug-of-war was a well-con-tested event. Mr. Cameron proved himself an old hand at handicapping, and the same must be said of . Mr. Regan as judge. Mr. Stonebanks presented the prizes. The children were well catered for in the way of toys, lollies, and races, whilst they were 'iterally swimming in hop beer, etc. Tho picnickers returned to the city about 7 p.m. .
