MIRAMAR CLUB-OPENING OF THE i SEASON. j The Miramar Club was fortunate in ' having' glorious, weather for the opening 1 Of its season on Saturday afternoon, and ] when the special trams from town ar- ' rived at 2.30 there were between 250 and 300 members and visitors at the club-house. The president, Mr. J. P. Firth, made a very happy speech, in the course of which he announced that His Exoellency the Governor had consented to be the first patron of the club. The announcement was received with very hearty applause. There were mafly visi- £ tors present from the other Golf Clubs i in Wellington, including Sir Joseph t Ward (president of the Wellington Golf ' Club) and Mr. A. S. Biss (captain of tha 1 Wellington Club), and Mn R. C. Kirk f (captain of the Hutt Golf Club). After t the president had declared the season r open, competitions were played, the re- e suits of which are here given:—Men's J driving competition, Mr. W. E. H. Mac- s kenzie, 235 yards, a record for a Mira- 6 mar competition; ladies' driving com- f petition, Miss Doughty, 159 yards; men's approaching and putting, Mr.' R. I C. Kirk; ladies' approaching and putting, Mrs. R. P. Ward; ladies' putting 1 competition, Mrs. C- E, Richardson. Befofo the next openihg day comes C round the club hopes to be in a much larger and more convenient house, for I ■which the plans have now been finally approved by the committee.
