Mr. F. J. Moore, of Moore Avenue, Parnell, 'met his death while bathiue at Waiheke on Saturday, says a Ircss Association telegram from Auckland. A companion went ashoro for some purpose and looking round saw Mr. Moore s body .floating in tho water. Apparently, t-he cause of death was heart failure. The secretary or the Melanesian Mission has been advised of the death of the Rev F. H. Drew, missionary at the Solomon Islands. The cause is xm-\ known, but it is stated that Mr. Drew died on the way to Maravovo Hospital. . —Press Association. ; Mr. Baldwin, of.Messr3. Baldwin and Bayward, has returned from _ Christchuroh, where he represented Messrs. O'Brien and Co., boot manufacturers, in an action brought to oppose their application for a patent for a shunter's hoot. . . Lieutenant J. Pow, formerly of the Southland and Otago . Boys 1 High, Schools' teaching Btaffs, is to-go to the front with the Fourth Eeinforcements. Mr. Pow saw service in'the South African war. . Mr. F. F. Munro, who has recently come to live in .Wellington; will not stand (it is stated by a Westport paper) as- a candidate for a.seat.on the Westport Harbour Board at the coming ■ elections. He will. attend ,his last meeting of. the board to-night. The secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union has received a letter from Mr. i. Hyams, of Wellington, who represents the Canterbury Union on the New Zealand Rugby Union, stating that he will not be available for re-election this year, as he may;have to spend the winter in Sydney owing to the -illness of his .mother. ' The West . Harbour Borough Council has, says a Press Association telegram from Dunedin, presented Mr. G.'Clark, late member for Chalmers, with a silver cigarette case, and. Mrs.'Clark with a handsome gold and diamond necklace. Mr. D. Cuddie, head of. the Government Dairy Division, is in Dunedin for the purpose of inspecting the shipments ■of cheese being put on the Tainui from Dunedin and Bluff and attending to other business connected with the local office of the Department. At a meeting of the employees of the Dunedin branch of the New. Zealand Express Company (Ltd.),^on Thursday evening a send-off was given to Mr. Duthie, who has lately retired from the management of the company. The foreman (Mr. Densem), on. beh&lf of the employees, in presenting Mr.. Duthie with an illuminated address and an enlarged photograph of the employees of the branch, referred to the esteem in which he was held by, the entployees, and "wished him every success in his new position. The toast of the guests' was most enthusiastically received.' Mr. Duthie Teplied thanking the staff for the kind expression of good feeling and for the. handsome present, which he' would always cherish. '.
