JOHNSONVILLE GOLF CLUB
■ The third annual report of the Johnsonville Golf Club states:—The finances of the club are entirely satisfactory. Starting the year with a cash balance of £17 15s. 9d., the treasurer received from all sources a further sum of £233 7s. lid., making the total reeciptsi for the year £251 3s. Bd. ■ With the exception of £7 lis. 3d., now in the bank account, the whole of this has been disbursed under the various headings shown in the revenue account. Oil taking over tho club's accounts the treasurer was faced with liabilities for rent totalling £31 14s. Theso have been wiped out, and the current year's rents accrued and due have all been met out of,the twelve months' income. Various rents amounting to £13 Bs., and wages £12, accrued to March 31, but not yet due, and totalling £25 Bs., form the only outstanding liabilities of the club. Against these there are assets assessea at £35 13s. 3d., leaving the club's balance of assets over liabilities at £10 ss. 3d. Throughout the playing season it was manifest that the size of the greens was altogether too small to allow a player making a good approach shot to Teap its full benefit. Before the closo of the season the committee therefore decided to go in for extensive construction work, more particularly at Nos. 1 and 9, and the hillside greens Nos. 3, 6, and 7. With the exception of No. 6, all these greens have been enlarged to an area of approximately 3000 square feet. As opportunity offered these were sown and top-dressed, and as the season progresses should afford some really good chances to the more proficient plaj-ers to put up good scores. During tne season inter-club matches were playod with Karori, Waiwotu, Hutt, and Paekakariki Golf Clubs—in all of which our club managed to hold its own. The various club contests were all keenly played, and provided some interesting golf. ! ■
The thanks of members are due to the president, Mr. Wallis, for his unfailing efforts to promote the club's interests; and to Mesdames Wallis and Morgan for their attention to, and supervision of the afternoon tea arrangemerits. Also to Mr. Alex. Moore for carting from town, free of cost, all material required for the links. Mr. Mooro has done this since the club's inception, and by the end of the year must have saved tho club much money.
