MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING, Tho monthly meeting of the' Makara -County Council was held yesterday. There were present; Councillors A. J. Taylor (chairman),. j. H. Haggerty, J. Monaglian, J. Pylo, S. Bryant, ana 6. Monk. ■' "
On. the motion of Councillor Haggerty the ranger was .instructed to. give the exact date and time of aU wandering stock at Paparangi and Newlands, with a view to taking proceedings, and also to make a. special report on wandering stock on the Porirua- Road.
Councillor Taylor moved, and Councillor Pyle seconded, and the motion was carried, that the roadmen l be instructed to give a week's a'ttentioii to the Paparangi-Newlands Road, it having been reported by ratepayers that the road was in bad condition. Councillor Pyle was also authorised to proceed with the setting in of two sets of pipes adjoining Humphrey's pi'opcrty. • • The City Council advised that they were putting on horses and drays on the. Hutt Road, and requested the Makara Council to do likewise.—Councillor Taylor moved, and Councillor Haggerty seconded, that no action, be. taken at present. The motion was carried. No further action is to be taken with regard to noxious weeds at Horokiwi. It was decided that roadmen should be allowed staihps for the postage of vouchers and time-Sheets.
. A remit was received from the Runaiiga Council requesting support in a motion regarding food prices.—lt was decided that no action should be taken.
Mr. W. Mepham was reappointed to the office-of lanip-lightor at Porirua, his duties to commence on April 1. It was decided to instruct tlie roadmen to effect improvements on the Horo-kiwi-Nowlands Road.. The matter was left in the hands of Councillor Taylor to arrange.
A motion moved by Councillor Bryant and seconded by Councillor Monk was carried to the effect .'that the".county, by-law, Section 4, dealing with traffic, and relating to traction engines, should be enforced, and the clerk was instructed to confer with the council's, solicitor with reference to further proceedings, and if necessary to issuo the required notice immediately. Section 4 says that heavy traffic of all kinds, save for the carriage of agricultural products or manure, shall cease on the county roads during the whole of May, June, July, and September. Accounts amounting to £49!) 3s. lid. wore passed for payment.
