MANY NEW ZEALANDERS
The following list contains tho names of New Zealanders and of men who have been intimately associated with the Dominion, who have met their deaths in the service of the Iving beyond New Zealand since the commencement of the war. The list contains the names, in alphabetical order, of all who have. been identified as belonging to tho Dominion.
The following met their deaths while serving with the Imperial forces':— 1 Andrews, Lieutenant F. G-, 4th Battalion King's Liverpool> Regiment, kijled in action, November (Christchurch).
Chapman, Lieutenant E. W., 3rd Dragoon Guards, 'mentioned in dispatches for conspicuous bravery,- and killed in action, November 18 (Christchurch). ■ '
. Donovan, Private William, Ist Devonshire Regiment, died from wounds received in the battle of the Aisne (South Dunedin).
Gale, John, killed in action at Longido (German East Africa)' on January 28 (Kaikoura).'
Garcia, Lieutenant 0. D. M., Ist Battalion Duke of • Cornwall's Light Infantry, died of wounds received in the battle of the Aisne Gee, Second Lieutenant. It. F. M. ( Wiltshire Regiment, wounded in France and died in Netley Hospital (Wellington).
lies, Surgeon-Lieutenant C. C. R.A.M.C., died of wounds, December 24 (Gisborne).
Macarthur-Onslow, "Captain A. W., 16th : Lancers, killed in action' near I'pres on November 11: formerly instructor vin New Zealand Defence Forces.
MacDougall, Captain J.. Grenadier Guards, killed in action / (aide-de-camp to Governor of New Zealand, 1913). Maidlow, Major J. S., Royal Artillery, killed in action.
Masefield, Major Robert, Shropshire Light Infantry, killed in action on October 24 (Akaroa).
Mathieson, Lieutenant Kenneth R., Irish Guards; killed in action near Ypres on November 1 (Marton). M'Donald, Alister, killed in action near Antwerp (Bulls). M'Nab, Surgeon Captain Angus, London Scottish Regiment, killed m action' (Southland).- •
Rawlins, Corporal G. E. C., 28th County of London Regiment (Artists' Rifles), killed on December 11 while cutting enemy's barbed wire entanglements, a task for which he volunteered (Tuapeka). ' Russell, Captain W. R., Northamptonshire Regiment, killed in action October 23 (Hawke's Bay).' Steele, Captain Oliver, Royal Berkshire Regiment, killed in action, Ootober 25 (Auckland).
Tait, William, King's Own Scottish Borderers, killed in action in Europe. Tayler, 1 Second Lieutenant E. H., Ist Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, died 'in Hazebroiich Hospital of pneumonia, February 9 (Auckland)'. ' Thomson,' Lieutenant K. S.,'Bengal Cavalry, killed in action- to Persia'(Wariganui).
Todd; J. and S., killed in action in Europe on January .19 (Matanui, Gisborne). ' v ' Watts, Captain C. H. R., .2nd; Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment, killed in action in December (Nelson).
The Naval Forces. The following were killed while serving with the naval forces:— Custance, Dr. G. W. M., drowned in loss of H.M.S. Hawke.
Dawson, William, able seaman, drowned in loss of H.M.S. Hawke. •
Knowles, William Edward, H.M.S. Philomel, "killed in action on February 8 with a landing party (Lyttelton). Moreton, John Thomas, seaman, H.M.S. Philomel, killed' in action on February 8 with a landing party. Powell, William Oliver, stoker petty officer, killed in loss of H.M.S. Bulwajk (Wellington). ' : Reardon, seamanj lost with H.M. Australian submarine AEI. Stanbiiry, William, H.M.S. Philomel, wounded in action on February 8 with a landing party, and died shortly •a-f-ter-wards. Woodland, seaman, : lost with H.M. Australian submarine AEI. New Zealand Force. • The ■ following members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces have met their deaths on service outside the Dominion:—
Bell, Surgeon-Captain J. A.' Terras, Mounted Field Ambulance, died in Abassia Hospital on December 29 (Christchurch). Burlinson, Private G. V., Cyclist Corps, Wellington Mounted Rifles, died on January 8, at Cairo, from injuries caused by falling from a horse (Levin). Campbell, Private" Malcolm, / Otago Mounted Regiment, died at sea on January 10, from pneumonia (Gisborrie),. Cooper,, Private A. G., 9th, Hawke's Hay, Company, Wellington Infantry Battalion, died on December '26, in Abassia Hospital, from pneumonia. Culpan, Private R. G., Ist Battalian Australian Expeditionary IPorce, died in Egypt in December from anaemia (Auckland).
Gilchrist, / Lance-Corporal John, N.Z.M.C., died at sea ■of ptomaine poisoning on October 25 (Gore).
Ham, private W., died of wounds received on February 3, at Serapeum (Motueka).
Rayfield, Private H. C., Canterbury Infantry Regiment, died of pneumonia in Egypt, oh January 15.
Webb, Lieutenant B. J. H., N.Z.M.O. Wellington Battalion, New. Zealand Ex-' petitionary Force, died on November 14; (from accidental injuries received at sea (Dunedin).
Yoxhall Private E., New Zealand Expeditionary 'Force (British section),, died at Alexandria of meningitis, December 27. ' »
