SUMMARY AND FORECAST
Present indications are for moderate to strong southerly and south-easterly winds, equally at times, in Cook Strait and between Kalkoura and East Cape. Cold and unsettled weather is likely to continue generally, with rain, especially in the East Coast and northernmost districts. There Is evidence of tho development, of a barometrio depression to the north-eastward of the Dominion, and a very extensive storm area rules in higher latitudes. The barometer has been unsteady, rising and falling again slightly. Strong southerly winds have prevailed, except in the southern districts, where variable breezes have been reported. Heavy rain fell in the vicinity of Cook Strait during last night, and cold, unsettled, and cloudy weather has ruled, with showere in many parts to-day^ D. C. BATES.
