Concerning the recent mishap to the Union Company's Manama whilst entering San Francisco SaTbour the latest mall brings the following account:—Steaming Into San Francisco- in a fog at about . 6 o'clock on the morning of January. 26, the Union Steam Ship Company's R.M.S. Marama. bumped on a sand bar off Point Montara, a few miles south of the Cliff House. Some of the pin-ues were sprung, and water entered the forward oonrpartmen! between the double bottoms, but the ship backed off and proceeded into port, gaining a slight liet to tho starboard aa it proceeded. The vessel, after discharging her cargo, was placed in dry dock and a survey made of nor bottom. It was found that between fifty and sixty plates were bent, buckled, or damaged, and fully six of these were punctured by the impact against the sharp rocks. An inquiry into the grounding was held before the British Consul at San Francisco, but the regular nautical inquiry will take placo on the arrival of the vessel at Sydney. It is understood that Captain Crawford attributes the misnap to a discrepancy between tho lights leading into San Francisco, as shown on the chart, and as they actually exist at the present time.' Laden with 3000 tons of coal, tho Melbourne Steamship Company's Hoba.rt made her initial visit to Lyttelton from Newcastle on Tuesday. She has replaced the Brisbane in tho trade.

Cable advice has been received by the local agents for the Oceanic Steamship Company (Messrs. Bannatyne and Co.), 6tating that R.M.B. Ventura arrived at San Francisco from Sydney on Wednesday, March 3-24 hours ahead of schedule time. The Ventura will leave the Californian port on the return trip on Maich 16, being due at Sydney on April S.

Latest charters include the barquentine Wanganui, at present loading coal at Newcastle for Wanganui. She will load timber at the latter port for Sydney. The barque Manurewa, now bound from Newcastle to Auckland, will subsequently load 'timber at Whangape for Sydney. ,

The Blackball Coal Company's steamer Ngabuta will be placed on the Wellington Patent Blip for overhaul to-day.
